Preliminary Task Edited Video

What was your role?
My role was picking the location and times for our shooting and making sure everyone could be available at the right time so we could get all the shots done. I also filmed quite a few of the shots. Including the convocations shots and the high angled shot as the students leave the classroom. I also was an actor in the task as well.

What worked well?
Our editing worked well, with making the shots all flow into one another and making look continuous instead of lots of different shots. One in particular when we use match on action as the boy walks through the doors from one side and comes out the other is well edited so it looks more effective when watching it back. I also think we picked the costume went well and it fitted in with our theme of a boy at school.

What didn’t work as well?
We had a few disagreements about what sort of shots we were going to have and because we had so many different ideas it was hard to pick only a few. To over come this we tried out as many shots as we could, so when we looked back on them in editing we could then pick the ones we thought looked best. We also found that filming is very time consuming so when we film our horror opening we need to be sure that we leave plenty of time to film incase we need to reshoot some bits. We also found out that we need to make sure the camera is charged fully before we film, because we found that the camera we were using had a very short battery life left so we were pushed on time, incase the camera completely ran out of battery.

The Ring Film Opening Analysis

The Ring Film Opening

Zoe, Ellie, Kelsey and Max

The Opening starts off With the film company animation. It's dark and theres a mysterious noise in the background which suggests that the genre of this film is going to be horror. It then goes on to a typical convention of a horror film which is a dark house, the weather is rainy and horrible and it's a low angle shot to make the house look vulenrable. The cosy setting inside the house gives the audience a false sence of security , this contrasts with the ouside which is dark and scary. The girls are watching the TV and it's talking about how TV kills your brain cells. This could be a sence of foreboding. The Dark door way behind the character creates suspence and tension as we don't know whats lerking in the dark. The zooming close up of the girl's face as she  is telling a scary story this adds tension and makes the audience pay more attention to what the girl is saying. Tension is built up by droning music in the background and the girl fakes her death the tension then automatically drops. Zooming in as the telephone rings makes the tension rise again and makes the audience feel on edge. The silence when answering builds up the tension which then turns into a joke. The phone in the foreground shows its importance and that the girl is scared of it. The girls opens the fridge Wwhich adds suspense because you think there is going to be someone behind the fridge. This makes the aduience feel on edge. The TV suddenly turns on and the TV is white and there is a horrible noise, this links with the noise at the beginning. The living room is homely which juxtaposes with the eerie TV and turns itself back on by itself which makes the character and audience scared. The quick shots of her pulling the TV socket out and makes sparks. This makes the audience jump and feel on edge. The high angle shot of the girl shows that she is vulnrable . The girl dies in the end which makes the audience jump and the white noise at the beginning is played again.

The Grudge 3 Opening

The Grudge 3 Opening

Zak, Hannah and Van

The opening starts with drops of blood this is a convention of a horror film. The film company is shown which is normally done in most film openings. This is followed by more drops of blood. The red background shows us that it s a horror film. Red means danger so this could suggest that there will be danger in this film. Main actors appear on the screen to tell the audience who will be in it. The opening then goes into a flash back which is in black and white. This emphasis the fact that it's a flash back. It then cuts back into the credits. There is then a fight scene and a girl is killed. There is an extreme close up of this girl. Doing this it tell us the story of how the girl got this way. There is a low angle shot from the young boys perspective this gives us an idea of what he saw from his point of view. There is also a point of view from the girl (the victim). There is then a close of the dead girl in black and white to show the death. it then goes back to the present day, by showing an establishing shot. There is a birds eye shot of the house and where the boy was. There is then a low angle shot as the girl crawls down the stairs this is to add to the tension and make it look more scary to the audience. Everything Then reverses back to the beginning to start the film again.
